The Furthering Community Unity (FCU) Team powered by Shell Federal Credit Union approached 2012 with new fresh ideas and to date has raised more than $4800 and volunteered over 300 hours.
For the first time ever, the FCU Team had 3 employees participate in the BP MS 150, a 150 mile bike ride from Houston to Austin, which everyone completed. The riders had a goal to raise $1600 and with the help of the employees, members and community the final number totaled $2,039.
Following the MS 150, the FCU Team quickly changed gears and began to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation, using some clever techniques like asking staff to pay to wear jeans on Thursdays, raffling off prime parking spots and selling delicious candy grams. The FCU Team was able to raise over $1600 to donate to Arthritis research.
Currently the FCU Team is hosting their annual “Everyone’s Gotta Eat” food drive through May 31st. All food collected will be donated to local food pantries and animal shelters in the cities of Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Webster and Pearland. With summer just around the corner, the FCU Team partnered with local elementary schools to help fill pantry: San Jacinto Elementary-Deer Park, Rizzuto Elementary- La Porte, Parr Elementary-Webster, Fairmont Elementary-Pasadena, Morales Elementary- Pasadena, and Jessup Elementary – Pearland. With over 400 students at each school, students were asked to bring at least one item each, adding an incredible amount of food donations from the schools.
What’s next for the FCU team? Starting July 15th the FCU Team will kick off their annual “Supplies for Students” school supplies drive collecting cash and school supplies for underprivileged children at local schools for the 2012-2013 school year.
